We collect minimal information needed to operate the Service: (a) the addresses you search, and the city selected, to return permit results; (b) your email address, if you choose to provide it for reports or our newsletter, or if you create an account; (c) payment information, which is processed securely by our payment provider (Stripe) — we never see or store your full card details; (d) a checkout session identifier returned by Stripe, which we store so your paid report unlocks when you return to the Service; (e) basic analytics data such as pages visited, the country associated with your connection, browser and device type, and timestamps, collected automatically when you use the Service.
We use your information to: provide permit search results; deliver reports you purchase; send you the email reports or newsletter you requested; improve the Service; process payments; detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and automated scraping; and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
The permit data displayed on PermitPeek comes from publicly available government open-data sources. This information is already public record, published by municipal governments. We aggregate and present it; we do not generate it. Because these records are published by the issuing municipality, we cannot alter or remove them at the source. If a permit record is inaccurate, the correction must be made with the municipality that issued it. If you believe PermitPeek is displaying government data incorrectly — a technical fault on our end rather than an error in the underlying record — please contact us so we can fix it.
The PermitPeek browser extension runs only on property listing pages at zillow.com and redfin.com. It also communicates with our own site, citypermitpeek.com, to retrieve permit records. It does not activate on any other website. On those pages it reads the street address shown on the listing and sends that address to our servers solely to return that property's public permit record. Those requests are handled and logged in the same way as a search performed on our website, as described in Section 1.The extension stores one item in your browser's session storage: a note that you dismissed the panel for a particular address, so it does not reappear while you keep browsing. It is cleared when you close the tab and is never sent to us. It does not collect your browsing history, does not read your form entries, passwords, cookies, or account information on the sites you visit, and does not track you across the web. Our use of information received from the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: we do not sell or transfer extension data to third parties, we do not use or transfer it for any purpose unrelated to returning permit results, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes. You can remove the extension at any time from your browser's extensions settings, which stops all of the above immediately.
We use cookies and analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Service and to improve it. This includes a session cookie to keep you signed in and a checkout identifier so your paid report unlocks after you return from Stripe. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking pixels. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though sign-in and paid report access will not work without them.
We rely on trusted third-party services including Stripe (payments), Resend (email delivery), Supabase (database storage for accounts, purchase records, and usage events), and Vercel (hosting). Each has its own privacy practices. Permit data is retrieved from government open-data APIs; those are public systems operated by municipalities and may keep their own request logs. We may also disclose information where required by law or valid legal process, or where necessary to protect our rights or our users.
We retain your email and account information for as long as you use the Service or until you request deletion. Purchase and payment records are retained as long as required for tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution purposes. You may request deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us.
We use encrypted connections, managed infrastructure, and access controls on our database and API keys. No system is perfectly secure and we cannot guarantee that unauthorised access will never occur. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you where the law requires it.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. California residents have these rights under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. To exercise any of these rights, email citypermitpeek@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we cannot delete government permit records, which are not ours to delete.
Permit records describe properties, not people. PermitPeek is not a consumer reporting agency, and the information we provide is not a consumer report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You may not use PermitPeek data to make decisions about credit, insurance, employment, tenant screening, or any other purpose covered by the FCRA.
PermitPeek is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after a revision takes effect means you accept it.
